New home, bright future

At its new, more versatile home in Landmark Building D at Fort Mason, YPT is reinventing itself while retaining the identity and ethos essential to founder Matilda Kunin’s legacy. As much as everyone came to cherish YPT in its old space, what mattered most, as Executive Director Stephanie Holmes points out, was the people and art that filled it and the special atmosphere that lifted spirits, created community and provided a haven for “fish out of water.” At the Southside Theater, YPT can take advantage of more modern facilities and offer expanded educational programming and repertory infused with the spirit of the old space.

Julian discusses how coming up in a supportive ensemble environment at YPT launched him on a path that led to writing and directing in high school, studying film at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and eventually forming his own production company, whose first feature, The Last Christmas Party, is set for release on Amazon and other video-on-demand platforms in November.
